OVERVIEW

Interskate is a growing local skate contest in Mönchengladbach
that now attracts international skaters and features a dynamic
blend of competitions, live bands, art installations, and workshops.
I was entrusted with designing the festival’s visual identity, capturing
the raw energy and resilience of the skateboarding culture.

CONCEPT & APPROACH

The identity is built around the concept of persistence and the
hard-earned victories in skateboarding. I collected broken skateboards
and used 3D scans of these shattered pieces as the foundation
of the visual language. The idea was to symbolize the constant
cycle of falling, getting back up, and pushing forward—a journey
every skater knows well.

DESIGN ELEMENTS

I contrasted the fragmented 3D-scanned skateboards with
a bold, clean typeface called Borna, which features straight
lines and clear shapes. This juxtaposition of clean design and
broken elements reflects the clash between the struggle
and strength inherent in skateboarding. Animated fragments
of broken boards were integrated into social media assets,
creating dynamic visuals that emphasize the festival’s gritty
yet vibrant spirit.I contrasted the fragmented 3D-scanned skateboards with

VISUAL STYLES

The overall aesthetic is both bold and experimental, combining
crisp typography with shattered 3D elements that
disrupt the composition in unexpected ways. The animated
graphics of broken boards flying across the screen were particularly
effective in digital media, creating a sense of movement
and energy.

DELIVERABLES

The deliverables included a new logo, posters, shirts (including crew shirts), stickers, flyers,
banners, maps, and a suite of animated content for social media—all designed to
amplify Interskate’s unique character. The deliverables included a new logo, posters,
